Steven J. Dennis
Business Consultant
Steve Dennis founded two successful Silicon Valley software firms; Smith, Dennis & Gaylord in 1973 and SD&G Healthcare Systems in 1988. Both firms were ultimately acquired and became divisions of large public companies.
Steve also served on the Board of Directors of numerous healthcare and commercial software firms. Currently, Steve serves on the Boards of Sea Studios Foundation, the Point Lobos Association, the Elkhorn Slough Foundation, GetGear.org, BuildingWise, and Sealife Conservation. Working with Sealife Conservation Steve has focused on reducing marine plastic debris flows through education and the control of land-based debris through advocacy.
Since moving to Carmel, California is 1996, Steve and his wife Sona volunteer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium where Steve lectures on jellies, white sharks, and deep-sea research. In 2002, Steve was awarded the Lucille Packard Volunteer of the Year Award. Currently Steve has over 5,000 hours of volunteer service at the Aquarium.
In 1997 Steve joined the Board of the Family Service Agency, a non-profit agency dedicated to ending child abuse in Monterey County. In 2002, as Board President Steve helped plan and negotiate a merger with Community Human Services creating the largest human services agency in the County. Steve has taught Strategic Management in the School of Business at California State University at Monterey Bay (CSUMB). In recent years, Steve has worked with dozens of non-profits on strategic planning and visioning.
Steve is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a BS degree in Management Engineering. He attended graduate school in Systems Management and Business and is a graduate of General Electric's Talent Development Program.
Steve & Sona have two married sons and six grandchildren.

Dan Haifley
Executive Director
O'Neill Sea Odyssey
Dan has been Executive Director of O'Neill Sea Odyssey since 1999. He has raised funds for its core and special programs, tens of thousands of youth have been served and he is a leading advocate for hands-on environmental education, presenting papers at numerous conferences. Dan served as Chief Aide and District Chief of Staff for the late California Senate Majority Leader Henry J. Mello from 1993 until 1996; Executive Director of Save Our Shores from 1986 to 1993; and Community Affairs Officer for PG&E in the Monterey Bay from 1997 to 1999.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He serves on the Santa Cruz County Commission on the Environment and on the Dominican Hospital Community Advisors Committee and previously served on the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council from 2001 to 2007 and the Board of Directors of the Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitor's Council from 1993 to 1995 and from 2000 to 2006, and has lead numerous ballot measure campaigns, most recently a successful storm water measure in the City of Santa Cruz.
In collaboration with UCSC Institute of Marine Sciences Director Gary Griggs he publishes a weekly column in the Sunday Santa Cruz Sentinel and the online San Jose Mercury News on oceanographic issues. Dan has received recognition from the California State Senate, State Assembly, the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments and the City of Santa Cruz for his efforts to establish the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, promote 26 California local ordinances regarding offshore oil and to protect California's coastline.

Gary Sirota
TCOP General Counsel
Gary Sirota is a founding partner at Coast Law Group, LLP in Encinitas, California where he chairs the Tax Exempt/Nonprofit practice area. He has, or is currently serving as General Counsel to many international non-profits including, Children's Lifeline, Water for Life International, the Quiksilver Foundation, SurfAid International, and The Clean Oceans Project. In addition, Gary co-chairs the firm's Action Sports and Business Transaction section.
Gary served on the Board of Directors of the Surfrider Foundation, an international non-profit environmental NGO; holding the offices of National Board Chair, President, and Chief Legal Advisor. He's currently listed as a member of the Surfrider Foundation Advisory Board. He successfully marshaled passage of the federal Beach Environmental Assessment and Cleanup Act of 1999 (the "B.E.A.C.H. Act"), thereby establishing a national saltwater human contact standard, and public data base.
Gary's interest in representing TCOP and their efforts to address the environmental disaster affecting the North Pacific Gyre is the result of a lifetime commitment to fighting for worthy environmental issues. Gary lives and surfs with his wife and two boys in Encinitas, California.

Richard Scott

Richard is principal and co-founding partner of the Paragon Consulting Group and Paragon Coaching LLC. Paragon specializes in leadership coaching, as well as executive team and organization development.
He has consulted for over 25 years to fortune 100, multi-national corporations in a wide variety of industries, as well as universities, government entities, and non-profit corporations. AT&T, Cisco, Hewlett Packard, Roche, Sprint, Sun MicroSystems, University of California, the US Airforce, and Easter Seals, are a sampling of clients.
He is vice-chair and business counselor with S.C.O.R.E., a non-profit corporation affiliated with the Small Business Administration providing free counseling and consulting services to small business and non-profit organizations nation wide.
Richard’s background includes nine years in aviation as an air traffic control and airline manager, and seven years in sales and public relations with Diamond National corporation. Richard holds an M.A. in organizational psychology.
